パスワードを忘れて、どうしても思い出せないときは、Trinity Rescue KitというLinuxディストリビューションのユーティリティが助けてくれる。

- ディスクが暗号化されていなければ、パスワードのデータベースにアクセスして、管理者権限なしに変更できる

もちろんNTFSへのアクセスを容易にしてくれた先達と、Linuxの開発者の皆さんに感謝しながら使うし、感謝を寄付で表すのも大事だ。
このイメージをUSBメモリに書き込むのに、UNetbootinというユーティリティの使用が勧められている。その手順は次の通りだった。
- まず必要なものを用意する。TRKの最新版、UNetbootin、フォーマットしてもいいUSBメモリ
- USBメモリをフォーマットする。簡易フォーマットで構わないが、ボリュームラベルをTRK-3_4とリリース番号に合わせることが勧められている。これをしないとやり直しになるとかならないとか。
- UNetbootinで、TRKのISOイメージを焼く。
- USBメモリからパソコンを起動する
これだけ。簡単簡単。あとは、パスワードという英語を見つけて、選んで、ユーザの一覧を表示させてみる。もしちゃんと表示されたら、空にしてみよう。うちのWondows 7では、変更はうまくいかなくて、パスワードを無しにすることはできた。
なお、困った時だけ使うもので、許可なく他人のパソコンのパスワードを変更して中身を見るのは、そのパソコンから勝手にハードディスクを抜いて中身を見るのと同じく、法律に反する行為だろう。
